Early Years & career

David Jaque was born in Bogotá, Colombia, and from a young age showed interest in music, particularly through the percussive approach of drums. While attending primary and high school, he developed foundational skills in music and instruments through independent classes and music courses. Around 2015, during his final year of high school, he had the experience of recording a full 11-song album with his band, Tierra Infame, at Delta Records, a well-known studio in Bogotá. This first experience opened a completely new path for David as a music producer and engineer. He was fascinated by the studio equipment, the workflow, the magic behind capturing sound, and the overall preparation—the whole experience. From that moment, David decided to pursue a career in music production.

In 2016, he began studying Music with an emphasis in Music Production at Andes University in Bogotá, Colombia. During his time at the university, he had the opportunity to assist and monitor numerous bachelor-level classes, including Morphology, Recording Workshop 2, Music Production 1, Music Production 2, and Pre-Final Project, which prepared students for their final graduation projects.

By the end of his undergraduate studies, David Jaque’s final project was the production of an EP (5 songs), which combined traditional elements of Colombian Pacific music with modern production techniques, including beats, acoustic recording, structure, harmony, and sound design. His project was awarded meritorious Thesis recognition.

In 2021, while still studying, he joined one of Bogotá’s most important studios, Arbol Naranja, as an assistant. Under the guidance of Antonio Suarez and Paula Peña, he participated in numerous recordings and projects.

In the same year, David began working as an assistant at another prominent Bogotá studio, Tambora Records, founded by Juan Sebastian Bastos Baldrich, also a professor at Andes University. This studio became his professional home and the place where he first approached music production and engineering in a rigorous and professional way. At Tambora, David quickly progressed to become a recording engineer for several of the label’s artists, including Tonada, La Mambanegra, Tribu Baharu, Papá Bocó, and others.

In 2022, after graduating from Andes University and while working at both studios, David also began working as a recording engineer, music editor, and mixing and mastering engineer for a well-known Spotify Colombia podcast, "A Fondo con Maria Jimena Duzan." This opportunity allowed him to explore a field beyond traditional music production.

By the end of 2022, David decided to focus on working at Tambora Records while building his portfolio as a producer and mixing/mastering engineer. Part of this decision led him to create a label with two university colleagues, Daniela Girado and Gustavo Fuentes. In February 2023, they founded En Pijama Records, a music production company focused on independent projects.

In 2024, David took a significant step in his music production career by pursuing a Master’s degree in Recording Arts and Technology in one of the world’s most important music cities, Nashville. In August 2024, he began his program at Middle Tennessee State University. During his first semester, an album he had worked on as a recording engineer at Tambora Records was nominated for Best Folkloric Album at the 25th Latin Grammy Awards.

Currently, David Jaque is focused on expanding his portfolio and advancing his music career in the United States while working with independent artist from Bogota.
